Geological Surveys

Seabed Surveys

Safe and successful offshore operations rely on precise, assured and reliable data concerning surface and subsurface locations and status. This is especially true in harsh environments and challenging conditions.  Securing the right support services can make all the difference when dealing with project-critical time, cost and performance objectives.

 We provide comprehensive offshore field and seabed survey services designed to meet broad and specific needs of our clients.

We carry out geomorphologic measurements of sea floors using acoustic imagery, magnetometry or shallow seismic records depending on the Client's specifications using state of the art side scan sonars, sea bottom profilers.

Seismology and Engineering Seismology

Seismology is primarily an observational science. Strong-motion seismology is concerned with the measurement, interpretation, and estimation of strong shaking generated by potentially damaging earthquakes. The occurrence of large to strong earthquakes, which cause loss of life and property, makes one of the main goals of seismologists and earthquake engineers to estimate the expected ground motion in a low to very high seismicity zone. Ground shaking and its associated damage to structures can be strongly influenced not only by source and path effects, but also by surface and subsurface geological and topographical conditions in the vicinity, known as ‘local site effects’.

Engineering Geophysics

Geophysical exploration techniques have numerous applications in geotechnical engineering. They can be used to determine the depth to and rip ability of bedrock, assess seismic hazards, measure earth conductivity etc. They can also be used to augment drilling programs by providing continuous subsurface information between boreholes and direct drilling programs by identifying anomalous areas for further drilling and/or sampling.

Earthquake Prediction

"Earthquake prediction "is usually defined as the specification of the time, location, and magnitude of a future earthquake within stated limits" and particularly of "the next strong earthquake to occur in a region."

To be useful, an earthquake prediction must be precise enough to warrant the cost of increased preparations, including disruption of ordinary activities and commerce, and timely enough that preparations can be taken. Predictions must also be reliable, as false alarms and cancelled alarms are economically costly and undermine confidence.
